OnDemand Storage is the Boston Storage Company helping students, residents and businesses.
The time is near! As August wraps up and we approach the beginning of September, many students are preparing to return to school. For some students, it will be their first year of college! For those students, this is the time of many firsts. The first time living away from home for an extended period of time. The first time living in a dorm. The first time eating at a dining hall. And quite possibly the first time they are interacting with a Resident Assistant.
A Resident Assistant is a great resource for a lot of young college students. No, they do not provide Boston storage services, but they do so much more. In this blog, we will be discussing the great care that Resident Assistants provide students, especially in their first year.
Resident Assistants on Move in Day
If you are a new student, you will likely meet your Resident Assistant for the first time on move in day. Expect to meet him or her upon arrival with all of your belongings. They will not help you with the moving and storage of your items, but they will help guide you to your room, if necessary. Expect to interact with your Resident Assistant further on your first day. Many times after parents leave on move in day, Resident Assistants host a meeting in which they go over rules, regulations and processes for life in the dorm. Here, you as a student will learn the Do’s and Don’ts of residency in the area. It is also here where you will meet your neighbors, and in some cases your lifelong friends. Your Resident Assistant will likely host a couple rounds of ‘icebreakers’ so that everyone in the area can get to know each other. Whether you travelled cross country or from down the road, everyone is in the same boat trying to get to know each other. Have fun. Soak it in. Enjoy. This is an exciting day.
Resident Assistants During the Semester
Resident Assistants are a great resource for assistance throughout your semester. Locked out of your dorm? Talk to your Resident Assistant. Advice on places to go, things to do, and people to see? Talk to your Resident Assistant. How about for studies? Your Resident Assistant will be able to provide you with information to access the necessary resources on campus. Who knows? Maybe they will be able to help you personally with any of your study needs as well.
Resident Assistants When It’s Time to Leave
As the semester comes to an end and it is time for you to return home, your Resident Assistants will be heavily involved in this process as well. They will check on your room to make sure it is the same as when you arrived. Then they will check you out, and you are left to deal with all of your possessions on your own.
